The original school in the district was built in 1856 and was called the Derrimut No 192 Church of England School. It was located on land of one of the local farmers at the foot of Mt Derrimut. The requirements for this school to be built was the closest school at that time was eight miles away at Albion (Albion at this point of time was located next to Braybrook where North Sunshine is now located).

It appears this school closed down some time in the early 1860's as a school inspector in 1862 could not find it and he wonder if it indeed existed.

In 1869, a new school was built south of Deer Park and was to become known as the Derrimut and Truganina No 192 School (This school was burnt down in 1969 in the Lara bushfires and was finally closed on the 6th August 1970).

By 1871 the locals in Kororoit started to petition for a school more central to them and proposed it to be built on land near the Kororoit Creek. By 1873 the District Schools Inspector, Mr Sasse, recommended a school to be built at this site. In 1874 the school opened and was known State School 1434 Braybrook. Soon the school became known as the Derrimut on Kororoit Creek State School No 1434. This was soon shorten to Kororoit State School No 1434.

By 1890 the name of the school was officially changed to Deer Park State School No 1434. This name reflected the name of area as it was now known as Deer Park.

Over the years remodeling of the school has taken place, new buildings added and the school play yards have been extended.

The school has also seen some dramas including windows being blown out when lightning struct the nearby Nobel Explosive Factory, the residence building was overrun with vermin, the ceiling collapsing after an explosion at Nobel's and a fire destroying the school in 1942.
