Named after Farmer, News Agent, Milk Bar Operator & Taxi Proprietor and Deer Park & Sunshine resident Cr. Herbert Arthur "Bon" Thomas. He was the Mayor of the City of Sunshine for three terms 1967, 1969 & 1974.

For many years this reserve remain undeveloped until 2012 when the Brimbank Council completed the construction of the playground, half court basketball court, shelters & picnic tables. More recently the construction of pavilions and top dressing of the ovals have taken place.
