Minus His Head and Hooves, The story of Sandy, the only horse to return to Australia after the First World War (1914 - 1918) by Elaine Brogan OAM.
Sandy returned to Melbourne and became ill in 1923. A pair of taxidermists decided that only his head should be saved. Sandy was euthanized and the taxidermists to work and the remaining part of Sandy's skeleton was buried at the Maribyrnong Army Deport.
A memorial now stands in Randall St Maribyrnong to honor Sandy, the war horse.
