The reserve was named after Painter and Maidstone resident Robert Alex Barrett in recognition of his efforts in developing the reserve and his service to the Shire of Braybrook. He was the Shire of Braybrook President for one term 1948-49. This reserve is now located in the City of Mairbrynong.

In 2019, the ground was levelled, reseeded and fully irrigated to enable Melbourne Victory’s W-League and Academy programs to be hosted at the ground.

The current tenants of the reserve include the Barkley St Uniting Cricket Club, Rosamond Bowls Club, Rosamond Tennis Club & Melbourne Victory’s W-League.
